What exactly is semi-permanent make-up?
Permanent cosmetic makeup is state-of-the-art form of cosmetic tattooing. The cosmetic implantation technique deposits tiny individual implants of pigment into the dermal layer of the skin.
Is it really semi-permanent?
Technically, permanent makeup procedures are considered permanent because coloured pigment is inserted into the dermal layer of the skin and cannot be washed off. Depending on individual care of cosmetic tattoo, fading may occur, tattoo may lighten and a touchup will be required.
Is it expensive?
Not if you look at the long term cost and effect. It costs about a one year cosmetic bill, but is little compared to 2 to 5 years of daily cosmetic expense. It doesn't run or wash off and it's a great time saver. It's worth every penny to make the most of your natural beauty.
Does it look natural?
Yes, very natural- your features will look more defined. Your friends would never know what the difference was in you, unless you told them.
Will I be able to go out without everyone noticing?
After a procedure, the area treated will be darker and more intense. This will last for a few days until the true colour emerges. When anaesthetic is used, it may cause a slight swelling – this will disappear by the end of the day.
How long will the semi-permanent make-up last?
Although pigment molecules stay in the skin indefinitely the colour gradually fades in around 2 to 5 years. This is variable depending upon the colour used, and the individual client.
What happens when my semi-permanent make-up fades?
If you return within 2 years and there is pigment still clearly visible, a ‘Colour Refresher appointment’ would be suitable for you to ensure your make-up is continually perfect. Or you can just let the colour fade away and go back to applying your usual make-up every day.
Is it safe?
It is important to ensure that your Practitioner has a recognised qualification in semi-permanent make-up application and techniques, preferably from a recognised and renowned training school. It is also important to note that if proper health & safety guidelines and sterilization and sanitary guidelines are met, semi-permanent make-up procedures should be completely safe. All our needles are ‘sterile’ and ‘single patient use’ - that’s one needle for one patient, needles are opened in front of our client. All our pigments used at Ageless Perfection are CE regulated & approved and have undergone vigorous testing to ensure they are safe and also effective. Copies of this information can be obtained for you if requested.
Does it hurt?
Discomfort will depend on individual's pain threshold and the skill of the technician performing the procedure. However, please keep in mind that there are different methods available to help with pain management, including topical anaesthetics.
Topical anaesthetics are used to de-sensitise the skin and reduce discomfort. Some clients feel no discomfort at all, others feel minimal discomfort.
How long will it take?
Typically, a procedure will take a minimum of an hour and a half to two hours. This process includes forms to be filled out, the waiting period for the anaesthetic, the actual procedure, and time for questions and answers after the completion of the procedure.
Are there any initial post treatment side effects?
Generally, there is some swelling of the treated area. While eyebrows may show little after effect, the eyeliner and lips may show more and the swelling may last from two hours to forty eight hours. There may also be some bruising. The colour is much darker than you may expect for the first 2-3 days, but as the area heals the colour becomes softer.
Is there any possibility of any medical problems?
The possibility that you would have any problems or reactions from these procedures is almost nonexistent with today's hygiene standards. Post procedure instructions, if followed carefully, will completely eliminate any risk.
Will I need to take time off work?
No, there is minimum swelling and redness. A cold compress (but NOT ice, as this can cause burns) can be used to reduce any initial swelling. [we’ve had clients come early in the morning and they return to work that afternoon.]
What about after-care?
You will be given a comprehensive guide regarding after-care treatment, as well as a full explanation after your procedure. All the procedures are carried out to the highest standards of hygiene and therefore, once outside the treatment room, hygiene is equally important for the healing process to occur naturally, swiftly and effectively.
